The Cowboys Win! THE COWBOYS WIN!

You would think, from talking to the average Cowboys fan, that the 2-7 Cowboys were right in the thick of the playoff hunt after upsetting the Giants 33-20 in the Meadowlands. I frequent a few Cowboys communities, and the general outlook would most accurately described as "blindly optimistic".

Don't get me wrong; it was a huge win for the Cowboys. I give them as much credit as you can possibly give a team with no playoff hopes for a regular season win. They overcame a tremendous challenge. Jason Garrett managed to turn around a TON of negative momentum in his first week as head coach following the firing of Wade Phillips. They went into New Jersey and made the Giants (6-3) look silly.

As an Eagles (5-3) fan, I must thank the Cowboys for handing the NFC East leading Giants a division loss. If the Eagles manage to beat the Redskins tomorrow night, they'll face off with the Giants in week 11 with control of the NFC East at stake.

Let's keep the trash talk in check, though. Cowboys fans, your team just doubled their win total. Let's see a little more from them before you start acting smug again. A little humility goes a long way. A friend of mine, who happens to be one of the more reasonable Cowboys fans I've come across, put it this way:

You know how when your team is getting absolutely killed, and the game is essentially over, and the other team is just running the ball nonstop to run the clock out, and a defender on your team makes a stop on that guy and does a huge celebration like he did something great? You know how much we all make fun of that guy?

You do understand celebrating this win is the entire-season version of the same thing, yeah?

I couldn't have said it better myself.

Please understand, Cowboys nation, that everyone knows you're not the same team you were just a week ago. But you're still not the team you thought you were in the preaseason. I'm also reminded of a certain postgame rant by a certain Colts coach:

At least the late season Eagles-Cowboys games will be interesting, now :)
